Damage or a breakdown during the rental

Tell the agency without delay and document the situation with photos: the return condition report will rely on them.

A scratch in a parking lot, a breakdown by the roadside, a flat tire: the first thing to do is always to tell the agency, right away. Only the agency can decide on towing, a replacement car, or a claim with its insurer.

What you can do

  • Photograph the damage from several angles, along with the place and the date.
  • Keep any accident report form, police report, or towing invoice.
  • Note the mileage and fuel level at the time of the incident.
  • Check on the car page whether the agency offers 24/7 roadside assistance.

When you return the car

The agency carries out the return condition report, with photos, fuel level, and mileage. It is the comparison between the pickup condition report and the return one — the “EDL”, as agencies call it — that establishes what happened during the rental. You receive a notification as soon as it is recorded.
